Ministry Highlight: Why Hunger - National Hunger Hotline

The organisation WHY had put up a national hunger hotline. Anyone in the U.S.A. can call and receive assistance with finding : "Emergency food in their community, government assistance programs, and various social services. In addition to assisting individuals in need, the Hotline also fields hundreds of calls from organizations, donors, and volunteers looking for information on emergency food distribution, gleaning, nutrition, funding sources, and other related topics. The majority of the Hotline calls, however, are from individuals in need of assistance. Walking the middle ground between referral service and crisis counseling, the Hotline makes every effort to provide its callers with whatever it is they may need, be it the phone number to a food stamp office, a listing of local food pantries, or simply a compassionate ear."

The Hotline is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 2 pm E.S.T.
Call: 1-866-3-HUNGRY
Or check them out online at: Whyhunger.org

We called the number listed to make sure that it is legit and received a very polite voicemail from the WHY staff asking for our name and number and said that they would contact us as soon as possible.

Volunteer for WHY - If you live in NY click here, they need you!
If you live outside of New York call this number: 1-866-348-6479
and they will hook you up with some one in your area that is fighting local and global hunger.

WHY was co-founded by Harry Chapin and according to Wikipedia, "Chapin donated an estimated third of his paid concerts to charitable causes, often performing alone with his guitar to reduce costs... He always said, 'Money is for people,' so he gave it away."

    GDS Theme Passage

"For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus
Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for
Jesus' sake. For God, who said, 'Let light shine
out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts to give
the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in
the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure
in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power
belongs to God and not to us."
    - 2 Corinthians 4:5-7
